Skywatch October

the corn maiden, and the fishes

The sun rises with the stars of the constellation Virgo the maiden bearing the corn or grain that is harvested or planted anew. The planet Venus shares the pre-dawn sky with Jupiter above. In the south, the light of Sirius is seen below the stars of Orion and Monoceros the Unicorn.

The stars of the constellations Pisces, Pegasus, Andromeda and Aquarius appear in the evening sky after sunset, with the planets Saturn (visible to the naked eye) and Neptune (invisible to the naked eye) shining above the eastern horizon.  This is the backdrop for this month's full moon on the 7th: the Harvest Moon or Seed Blessing Moon depending on the hemisphere.

This  Full Moon could be a wonderful time for honouring the seed potential and gifts of Mother Nature, gathering inspiration from our earth walk to sew seeds or bear fruits in our dreams. And to thank the waters and the soils for their life-sustaining gifts.

The sun co-rises with the star Spica on 16th and 17th, continuing the theme of sewing and nurturing seeds toward their fullest or highest potential.  Many blessings and inspiration may come through the sunlight....

The New Moon in Virgo/Libra on 21st is accompanied by a conjunction of the planets Mercury and Mars, coinciding with the peak of the annual Orionids meteor shower.

The golden light of Arcturus the Bear Guardian may be seen before the sunrise and sunset at this time year, as the bears prepare to enter their dens.

October blessings to everyone!
