Skywatch August

August is the time of year when the Milky Way arches overhead from south to north by mid-evening in the northern hemisphere.  The stars of Vega (the 'swooping eagle'), Cygnus (the celestial swan), and Aquila (the 'flying eagle)' reach their highest place, crossing the meridian around the middle of the night.

July Full Moon beneath the Milky Way

The July Full Moon this year occurs beneath the stars of the Milky Way, between the constellations Sagittarius the Archer and Capricornus the Sea Goat.  The three bird stars of the Summer Triangle: Altair, Deneb and Vega fly high above the golden orb.
